I never get butterflies before a performance. The worst thing for me is having to wait to get on that stage because I get so impatient. It starts when I pull up to the venue. I always think that we’re told to be there way too early, even though we’re usually rushing to get to the place beforehand. [LOL..that comes with the territory though. As an up and coming artist, we have to go through these things. It's humbling, really. And I'm thankful for that. It keeps us levelheaded. And I love that.] So when we walk in, I survey the performance area then map out my boundaries in my head – how much space we have, what we can and can’t do, etc. Then comes the wait. Ugh. The wait. It sucks. But it’s part of it all.
Then comes the time when people start scrambling to find me and Finesse. This is especially funny because I’m usually on my lonesome in my “getting focused mode” and Finesse is either grabbing more drinks at the bar, out on the dance floor or outside galavanting. I wish I was more carefree like him! [I'm sure I'll become that way soon enough but I know I'll be thinking about the performance somehow.]
Then comes my favorite part. Finally. “Please welcome to the stage…Triangle Offense!” Applause. Our music starts. We transform.
It’s a great feeling. The rush flowing through my entire body. The Bruce Leroy glow. It’s amazing. I love the challenge of keeping the crowd in tune with us the entire time. I gladly accept it.
Next comes the sad part of the night. The hard goodbye. We thank the audience and make sure to mention the website so we can stay connected with them. I take a breath and a sigh of relief knowing that we did our best on that stage. I said I never get butterflies before a performance but I usually get a BAD stomach ache after. I was told that it’s all of my anxiety and adrenaline going to one place. I take it as my body knowing that I have to get down to business first. My body knows that my music is too important to me to let anything else to get in the way. So, my body intentionally doesn’t give me a stomach ache until AFTER I’m done LOL. Thank God for Pepcid AC though! It sucks that I go through that most of the time..but again..it’s humbling, really. So I’m thankful for that. It keeps me levelheaded. And I love that.
Hope to see you this Saturday!

Fun fact: Watch 2:37, when I throw my hat to the back. It actually landed on one of the candles. In my head, I was like “Oh no..I’m gonna burn this place down to the ground!” but I had to keep performing! I saw someone in the corner of my eye grab my hat and get it out of harm’s way. Special shout out to whoever that was! I never got to thank you! You may have saved many lives that night. Lesson learned: I will never throw anything anywhere during a performance again LOL.
