Who’s sicker than us? [Literally.]
After hearing my manager fight the coughs to carry a conversation, and hearing our guitarist [MJ!] has been in the hospital for 2 days, I now only fear God and the common cold. Sci and Nemo [who formulate Jersey Boys] have been very sick as well. I, however, feel pretty good. Interestingly enough, I was on the same boat as them 2 weeks ago during our back to back performances on October 17th.
“Hell Week” has arrived as Edwin [manager] would call it. This is the week where our team sacrifices all of our time in devotion to rehearsing, recording, and mixing in preparation for a performance. In this particular case, 2 performances. In one day. Did I mention I was sick?
Sci and Edwin finished recuperating from their cold, only to pass it on to me. It was very difficult to rehearse when you’re coughing your butt off in between songs, but the guys were very supportive in toughing it out. Sci would bring cough drops and Buckley’s cough syrup and Edwin would share his left over prescription medicine with me to help me get to our performance date.
Saturday arrives and I’m still coughing and I’m congested. It also didn’t help that it was brick outside with rain. I had one large tea with lemon and honey in the morning, and en route to sound check at Halo Haloween, I had some more Buckley’s and a dozen cough drops. At the Heroes Tour, I spent most of my time conserving my energy for our performances. When me and Sci got on, he got the crowd hyped with some call and response, and it definitely helped get some of the anxiety off me. Music drops, and we crush it. We thank the audience as well as the event planner’s [Taeko Carroll and Ashley of Heroes of Hustlers] and headed to Halo Haloween. I spent my commute from Newark to New Brunswick sleeping, coughing, and coughing while sleeping. Since we were 2nd to the final act, we had plenty of time to rest. Our friends [Becky/Cacie/Salimah] brought extra cough drops for us since I deaded our last bag. The time allotted gave me enough rest to get some energy back. When we hit the stage, Sci asked for a moment of silence for the Ondoy victims, then continued to what became a wonderful show.
The crew went to celebrate but I opted out because I felt like I was going to cough up a lung. Thanks to everyone who came to the shows and showed us love!

from a nursing student perspective? probably shouldn’t share antibiotics/prescriptions. edwin is going to get another upper respiratory infection sooner than he thinks. and his meds probably aren’t targeting your particular bacteria…
just saying… (recently had an exam=[)
otherwise, get well soon!
lol gotta love raissa, she keeps it so real!
If ever in a cough drop shortage, I got you guys! hopefully you guys won’t be this sick again anytime soon though. you guys gave an amazing performance even while being sick. you never disappoint!
lol at raissa’s comment.
